Tropical Weather Information

For those of you who have this, there is no update at this time.

For those who do not, keep reading...

I know we are still in the off season for Hurricanes, however, we have some

new gateways that have come online since last year....

This is a reminder for those who want to provide a text output of the

NOAA NHC tropical weather OUTLOOK.

For a simple no frill way to install it, please visit our website:

in plain English:

goto www.florida-dstar.info

click on the D-star tab

click on the Gateway Software tab or link

click on text scripts

click on wxalert.

For your ROOT crontab, you will add the following line:

1 * * 6,7,8,9,10,11 * . /dstar/wxalert/wx_two.sh > /dstar/wxalert/wx_two.log 2>&1

WHAT DOES IT DO?

This will play out on to the ports you specify in the config file,
the text as it is seen from the tropical weather outlook issued by NHC Miami, in text form, decodable via the LS DATA port of your Dstar radio and terminal programs such as D-Rats, D-CHAT or your program of choice.

A SAMPLE config file has been included with the tarball...

THIS CAN ALSO BE USED TO PULL Tropical Weather reports for the

Pacific or others area where NHC issues the Tropical Weather Outlooks for..

Modification to the perl script is all that needs to be done.

The PERL script was written by William Stillwell, KI4SWY, originally

for the Florida gateways, this is now available for the South Eastern gateways, and others.

Automated WEATHER ALERTS FOR LOCAL AREAS. This has not been completedand is in beta test at this time. Release will be announced when it is completed. Right NOW, this is currently a project being worked on by the D-RATS group with the D-RATS program. www.d-rats.com
